One of the most exciting aspects of booking a cruise with Celebrity is the choice of ports of call. Not only does this cruise line travel to some of the most beautiful destinations in the world and provide unrivaled service and accommodations, it also takes great pride in making sure passengers have a wonderful variety of things to do and see while on land. Although Celebrity Cruise Line offers far more than eight ports of call, we wanted to focus on some of the more interesting stops various ships make along the journey.
1. Ajaccio (Corsica) – With an estimated population around 60,000, Ajaccio is small enough to explore yet large enough to find an abundance of things to do and see. Of course, Celebrity Cruise Line has specific excursions available from which you could choose or if preferred, you could spend time on your own. As the capital of Corse-du-Sud, this destination is perfect regardless of the time of year sailing. First established in 1492, Ajaccio is where Napoleon the first was born so in addition to the natural beauty and adventures, it is a place of rich history.
2. Auckland, New Zealand – As the largest city regarding population in the world, you can only imagine the adventures you would find while visiting this Celebrity destination. Just a few of the excursions that Celebrity offers to this port of call is trips to some of the 60 volcanoes, a trip downtown for shopping, dining, and to see the Harbour Bridge, and nature explorations to any number of gorgeous parks and reserves found in and around this city.
3. Zeebrugge/Brussels – Located in the Flanders Province of Belgium, Celebrity Cruise Line stops at this small port of call. Although a very small place, the population is quite dense. Because this destination has such a deep, rich history, it promises a great time of adventure and exploration.
4. United States Virgin Islands – Celebrity Cruise Line has several ports of call in the USVIs but Charlotte Amalie and St. Thomas are among the favorites. Although you could participate in some of the more popular excursions, this port of call also offers a number of things to do and see in the less traveled areas. Of course, the islands are tropical and simply gorgeous, making this a relaxing port of call too.
5. Scandinavia and Russia – Taking a 12-day Celebrity cruise, you would stop in a number of ports of call for Scandinavia and Russia to include Helsinki. This destination in Finland is clean, hospitable, and an excellent place to learn about history through museums and areas hit during wartime but also to shop, dine, or simply take in the breathtaking beauty of the areas on the outskirts of the city.
6. Alaska – While all Celebrity Cruise Line destinations are exceptional, trips to Alaska seem to be extra special. Numerous ports of calls are offered depending on the itinerary but one in particular is worth seeing. Ketchikan is the home to ancestral Indians called the Tlingit tribe. At this port of call, you can view the world’s largest collection of totem poles, visit lush rainforests, or spend time at Misty Fjords National Monument.
7. Athens, Greece – Celebrity Cruise Line has stops in several places in Greece but one of the most interesting and romantic is Athens. The port of call is Piraeus, is home to the Acropolis looms, which were constructed in the 5th century BC. Other popular sites include the Parthenon, Mount Lycabettus, and the Omonia square.
8. Rome – Of course, no cruise with Celebrity would be complete without stopping in Rome. This sprawling port of call is beautiful, romantic, and legendary. Some of the places worth visiting include the Eternal City, the famous Roman Coliseum where gladiators once fought, and the Forum, which was at one time the commercial and political center.
