Disney Cruises

Although it seems as if Disney Cruise Line has been around much longer, this company is only 15 years old. Although relatively young, this cruise line has brought joy to the lives of millions of people since being opened to the public and anticipation is that millions more will benefit from the entertainment, outstanding service, and great destinations of which Disney is notorious. Owned and operated by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, a US-based company and division of The Walt Disney Company, the cruise line launches ships out of Florida.

The CEO of Disney Cruise Line has changed over the years but currently, Karl Holz oversees operations to ensure every passenger is provided with a one-of-a-kind experience at the hands of highly trained and dedicated staff. With two unique ships, each with a different destination, passengers can enjoy a variety of experiences. Fleet for the Disney Cruise Line includes Disney Magic and Disney Magic. Both ships have ports of calls in the Caribbean and the Bahamas but date of operation and design are different. One thing that makes the Disney Cruise Line so special is that it owns Castaway Cay, which is a beautiful private island located in the Bahamas where the ships port.

The Disney Magic cruise ship began operations in the summer of 1999 whereas the Disney Wonder ship followed one year later. Although both ships are designed with 900 staterooms, the design of each provides unique character. For this reason, a family could sail on one of the Disney cruise ships and have an amazing time but then sail on the other ship and experience something very different. Having variations in decorum, as well as destinations, venues, entertainment, shows, and restaurants makes each trip special.

A misconception is that Disney Cruise Line is for small kids only but in truth, this organization has a number of programs and venues geared toward teenagers. Therefore, children, teens, and even adults have a blast while sailing in one of the Disney Cruise Ships. Interestingly, prior to these ships being launched, Disney had locked into a contract with another cruise line called Premier Cruise Line to offer vacations during the 1980s. Although not actual fleet of Disney, the venue was fun and geared toward children. In addition, the ships adorned various Disney characters.

Now that Disney Cruise Line has its own ships, the company has enjoyed more flexibility and thereby versatility in what it can offer. Along with the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder cruise ships, a third ship called the Disney Dream is being completed and the goal is that in 2011, it too will be sailing the waters around the Caribbean and Bahamas. However, a fourth cruise ship is also being worked on, this one with a sail date set for sometime in 2012, this one called Disney Fantasy.

Both of these new Disney Cruise Ships have been in the creation phase since 2007. In addition to the four ships that will eventually be in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, Disney has contracted with Mayer Werft to build two more ships in the “dream class. All of the Disney ships are family-oriented, which means none have a casino but with so many exciting adventures just waiting to be experienced, once onboard no one misses that type of entertainment. With Disney Cruise Line, the sole focus is on bringing families together for fun and quality time together.
